Subcontractor Site Safety Brief

Complete on the first day the subcontractor attends site — before work commences. Supervisor delivers the brief verbally and ticks each item. All subcontractor workers present must sign attendance below. File with 4B.CMP.006. | Basis: HSWA 2015 s34 (PCBU coordination); s36(3)(f) (information and supervision).

3 Site Safety Briefing — Supervisor to Cover Each Item
Instruction: Work through each item verbally with the subcontractor's lead and all workers present. Tick only when covered. Add site-specific notes in the right column where required.
  • Site boundaries and access/egress routes Show workers the site perimeter, which gates are to be used, and any areas that are out of bounds.
  • Hazards identified on this site today Refer to daily risk assessment (4B.FRM.003). Cover terrain, slopes, irrigation lines, cables, bins, machinery traffic.
  • Machinery and equipment on site — traffic plan Identify all operating machinery. Explain pedestrian exclusion zones around forklifts, tractors, and moving equipment.
  • PPE requirements for today's tasks Specify mandatory PPE: hi-viz, gloves, eye protection, footwear. Confirm subcontractor workers have their own PPE.
  • KVH biosecurity hygiene requirements Boot wash stations and clean-down point locations. Prohibit soil/plant material movement between orchards. No personal plant material on site.
  • Spray / agrichemical exclusion areas If spraying is planned or has recently occurred — advise re-entry intervals, identify treated areas, confirm PPE for re-entry.
  • Weather and environmental conditions Heat management plan if temp >28°C — shade, water, rest breaks. Wind speed for spray work. Wet surface slip hazards.
  • Working at height — ladder and platform rules 3-point contact. Ladder angle 4:1. No working on ladders in wind above 40 km/h. Spotter required for platforms above 1.5 m.
  • Right to refuse unsafe work Confirm that all workers — including the subcontractor's own — may stop work if they believe it is unsafe. No penalty applies (HSWA 2015 s83).
  • Incident and near miss reporting All incidents and near misses must be reported to the 4 Brothers supervisor immediately. Do not move injured persons unless further danger exists.
  • Drug and alcohol — zero tolerance No work while impaired. If supervisor suspects impairment, worker is stood down immediately. No exceptions (4B.HS.014).
  • Client / grower site rules Any specific rules set by the orchard owner — no smoking, no music, vehicle restrictions, visitor check-in requirements.
  • Communication and check-in procedure Confirm how and when subcontractor lead checks in with 4 Brothers supervisor during the day. Lunch/break times. End-of-day confirmation.
  • Any other site-specific safety information Unstable ground, water channels, overhead power lines, electric fences, bee hives, chemical storage on site.
4 Subcontractor Worker Attendance — Sign to Confirm Briefed
All subcontractor workers on site must sign below confirming they attended and understood this site safety brief. Workers who arrive after the brief must be individually briefed by the 4 Brothers supervisor before starting work.
